            An exhibition that surveyed twenty five years of painting practice
            from the Colour Field works of the early seventies to the most
            recent composite works from travels across the continent.

            colour and light in Goddard's work throughout the Seventies is
            a highly personal, analytical and abstracted quest for environmental
            essences.'

'The transformation
            in Goddard's work from reductivism to multi-view realism is a
            reflection of the artist's understanding and acceptance of the
            creative function of dis-order or chaos.

            Within Islamic art and architecture,primary structures or designs
            are often disguised or obscured by layered development in order
            that the viewer responds, actively seeking comprehension. This
            principle has remained fresh in the artist's imagination, and
            its implications, in terms of setting up disjunctures to precipitate
            fresh perceptions,are an inescapable part of reading his work.'

Crossing fields - Las
            Meninas and Friends Encounter Chambers Pillar after a Broome Visitation 1994
            - 1995, involves the fragmentation of the Velasquez painting,
            Las Meninas. Like the drifting flotsam of the thong, each character
            in the painting is realeased from the hermetically sealed structure
            of the royal court of eighteenth century Madrid to form new associations
            with images from the Australian town of Broome. Crossing and
            pivoting around photographs and a large painting of Chambers
            Pillar, new pathways, psychic power structures and Velasquez's
            quest, like many artists, for personal and professional recognition
